Flamenco guitar is very different from classical guitar. Not only are the chord progressions different and unusual - flamenco music uses the Phrygian mode - and the rhythms different and ever-changing, but the right-hand technique is very different too! Techniques include "Rasgueado" (or "Rasgueo") - strumming with outward flicks of alternate fingers, "Alzapua" - a thumb technqiue, "Golpe" - finger tapping on the soundboard of the guitar, amongst others.
Playing for dancers is a unique skill, as the guitarist follows the dancer and has to learn to recognise the steps and the signals in order to accompany skilfully.
If you are already an accomplished classical guitarist, you can learn the flamenco techniques.
Guitarist Stuart Reynolds is an accomplished flamenco guitarist who has performed at many venues, large and small for many years. He will guide you in learning to play for dancers, either in a dance class situation, or privately with a dancer.
